Dell is releasing two new curved gaming monitors named the Dell S2721DGF and the Dell S2721HGF equipped with new and bolder designs that highlight their performance. The two aim to give gamers a wider choice depending on the specs they want and the budget they are willing to spend. These two also have 1550R curves for immersive visuals which makes them more enticing.
The difference between the Dell S2721DGF and S2721HGF is their panel types and resolutions. The S2721DGF sports a 27-inch IPS panel with a 2560 x 1440 resolution and a 165Hz maximum refresh rate. Its also capable of a 1ms response time and up to 98% DCI-P3 coverage along with DisplayHDR 400 capabilities.
The Dell S2721HGF, on the other hand, offers a 1920 x 1080 curved VA panel with a maximum refresh rate. It is not HDR capable, but it naturally has a 3000:1 contrast ratio which offers a considerable advantage in black luminance and visibility in dark scenes. Its also cheaper at $280, compared to the S2721DGF which will release at $570.
The brand also revamped its gaming line’s aesthetics to differentiate them from their business and prosumer models. The older Dell gaming monitors did look like almost all of their offerings, except for a few releases which had very minor changes such as blue logos and accents. Both the Dell S2721DGF and S2721HGF have bezel-free designs, but the surprise can be found at the back of the monitor.
The rear part of chassis for the Dell S2721DGF and S2721HGF now has a unique vented design with horizontal slats. The brand mentioned that this isn’t merely for looks, but it was also intended to help keep the monitor cool. The accent is outlined with an RGB LED strip which allows users to match the monitor to their respective lighting themes.
Dell also noticeably added a revised control layout comprising a joystick and a few hotkeys on the Dell S2721DGF and S2721HGF. Almost every monitor they offer still uses OSD buttons, so we think this is a huge improvement for the user’s ease of use.
The Dell S2721DGF features FreeSync Premium Pro compatibility while the S2721HGF is limited to FreeSync Premium. The only difference between the two is that the Pro version supports HDR, although the QHD variant is limited to DisplayHDR 400. Both models will be compatible with G-Sync once they ship, so Nvidia users can enjoy them as well.
The Dell S2721DGF and S2721HGF will become available on July 28 and August 21 respectively on the brand’s official website and a few select retailers. Pricing sits at $570 for the QHD model and $280 for the FHD variant, but we’re expecting that to drop when stocks stabilize.
