The Lenovo P32U is a cutting-edge 4K monitor made for savvy professionals who need comprehensive gamut coverage and the amazing powers of USB-C with Thunderbolt 3. This new offering has a lot on its shoulders as the latest ThinkVision monitor since the X1 left a lot of consumers hanging. If you are looking for a large display with excellent crispness, color fidelity, and the latest connectivity, the Lenovo P32U is one monitor you should look out for.

Lenovo P32U Specifications

Design and Features

The Lenovo P32U like the rest of the ThinkVision monitors, sports a straightforward design suitable for business or studio settings. The chassis comes with a sleek, matte black finish with clean lines and minimalistic cues for that sophisticated look. The face is mostly bezel-free, save for the thicker bottom bezel with indicator lights and the dual stage borders on the rest.

This design treatment makes the Lenovo P32U suitable for impressive multi-display setup in a landscape orientation. It’s not unlikely that this model will see multi-monitor use in homes and offices since it should be an excellent tool for productivity.

The Lenovo P32U comes with a wide array of functional features which are expected from a high-end professional display like this one. The large cabinet is supported by a fully ergonomic stand with a complete range of ergonomics except for pivoting. Aftermarket armatures are an option as well since the stand is fully removable to reveal VESA mounting holes.

The Lenovo P32U’s trump card lies in its I/O panel which includes a USB-C slot with Thunderbolt 3 compatibility which allows signal, data, and power transmission. There is also a second USB-C Thunderbolt 3 output slot making it easy to daisy-chain multiple P32Us. Of course, DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 are present for desktop PCs and maybe a gaming console for after-hours enjoyment on the side.

Display and Performance

The Lenovo P32U sports a 32-inch WLED IPS panel with a 3840 x 2160 4K resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, and 6ms response time. A contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a maximum brightness of 300cd/m2 are also included in the spec list, indicating that this device is not an HDR-capable display despite its impressive color qualities. The size and resolution are also perfect for PC and console gaming. However, the slow response time and the lack of gamer-centric features may say otherwise.

We have yet to test for these claims, but the firm is already advertising 99.5% Adobe RGB coverage which also translates to full sRGB representation with extra vibrancy. This output is already outstanding when comparing the Lenovo P32U to vanilla monitors. However, the market has its focus on higher standards. Users are now looking for full HDR compatibility and comprehensive DCI-P3 coverage.

It isn’t clear yet if the Lenovo P32U includes specific modes for sRGB and Adobe RGB outputs, but the firm noted in the launch that the monitor would support “Multi-Color Space Capability.”  We think that this feature only means that the display can put out content in varying color spaces simultaneously via PBP/PiP. There are plenty of options that can split a massive  4K screen to show images from different sources, but models that can do so in different gamuts are quite rare.

If you think about it, monitors like the Acer PE320QK are similarly capable in this regard, but it does have a few more features in tow for a lower price. But to be fair, we only have a few bits of information about the Lenovo P32U’s full capabilities. The success of the Lenovo P32U is crucial to the company’s reputation for general consumers who were disappointed with previous releases.

The ability to cascade a display output through multiple Lenovo P32Us via its USB-C Thunderbolt 3 slots is enticing for gamers, but the connector has seen limited use in today’s gaming GPUs. Some brands like MSI have started to warm up to the idea of a USB-C GPU so that we might receive some gaming mileage with this monitor in the future. However, multiple 4K screens require massive GPU firepower, putting the lack of VRR features in this variant in the limelight.

Thoughts on Lenovo P32U

The Lenovo P32U takes the USB-C Thunderbolt 3 revolution further by offering daisy-chaining capabilities which will prove invaluable for productivity setups. Using a MacBook Pro or Dell XPS laptop power two of these 4K monitors should be an impressive sight to behold. The comprehensive gamut coverages should also be an excellent selling point for the monitor, but the lack of a dedicated DCI-P3 or HDR output might make consumers look elsewhere.

The Lenovo ThinkVision P32U is scheduled to go on sale shortly for an MSRP of $1349 in global markets. The price is a bit steep for a wide-gamut 4K monitor. However, the USB-C Thunderbolt 3 daisy-chaining feature somehow justifies the high cost. Keep checking this page for the latest news and information on pricing and availability.
