The bezel-free Dell S2419H offers a clear IPS panel with a glossy finish and a vibrant output which is perfect for everyday use. Glossy monitors are now few and far in between, but they are sought out by users who would want to avoid the observable effects of matte coatings on color and sharpness. The Dell S2419H is a suitable display for everyday use, but let’s check out how it’s performance numbers look.

Dell S2419H Specifications

Design and Features

The Dell S2419H features a modern take on typical home and office monitors with its sleeker exterior. The device is finished in glossy black matched with matte silver on the stand. The monitor’s highlight is its dual-stage design which Dell calls Infinity Edge which removes unwanted bezels for a clean and beautiful look.

This aspect makes this offering an ideal choice for multi-monitor setups to achieve a more vast view space which is more affordable than getting an ultrawide. However, take note that you have to deal with more cables so management can be tricky.

You also have to deal with OSD buttons if you want to tinker with the Dell S2419H’s settings. The layout is located at the underside of the lower bezel which makes them very accessible, but a bit difficult to memorize.

The Dell S2419H fits into the budget segment so it does not come with the usual creature comforts you’d typically find on its P-Series siblings. The monitor comes with a nice looking and very sturdy stand, but it can only offer tilt for ergonomics. You are also, unfortunately, stuck with this part since there is no provision for VESA mounts on the rear of the chassis.

The I/O panel on the Dell S2419H is relatively simplified as well since it only contains two HDMI 1.4 ports and a 3.5mm jack. But what’s excellent about this monitor is it manages to include a pair of Waves MaxxAudio speakers with 5 Watts of power per channel. The duo doesn’t sound perfect, but they are decent enough for nearfield listening while sounding better than most of what we’ve tested.

Display and Performance

The Dell S2419H features a 24-inch IPS panel with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, and 5ms response time. Contrast is specified at 1000:1 with a 250cd/m2 backlight that can pulse up to 400cd/m2 when HDR mode is active. These aren’t cutting-edge specs, but we know home and office users will be happy with this monitor.

Out of the box, the Dell S2419H already posts decent scores that do not require calibration with a colorimeter. The monitor looks vibrant and alive thanks in part to the clarity of the glossy screen which combines quite well with the panel’s native capabilities. We’d even dare to say that you can use this display for editing tasks for RGB images for web use.

The Dell S2419H scores a mighty 100% coverage of the sRGB color space with fantastic accuracy. Gamma sits a bit higher than expected at 2.3, but it adds a nice touch of extra vibrancy to some colors. Designers might want to calibrate this monitor for spot-on accuracy, but games and movies will appear with eye-popping shades and tints.

What the Dell S2419H exceeds at is its contrast ratio which can reach 1200:1 at below 30% brightness. This aspect along with the comprehensive color and the glossy finish combine to create an unadulterated image which is pleasing to the eye. However, be wary of placement in your room since glare will always be amplified by the panel treatment.

Gaming is one of the probable uses of the Dell S2419H, and we think that it wouldn’t suck at it. The monitor’s input lag sits at only 3ms, making it one of the fastest home and office monitors we have tested. The only limitation that will instantly become apparent is the 60Hz refresh rate which is too low by today’s standards.

Its not that its necessary, but the Dell S2419H does not support FreeSync for smoother gaming. 1080p at 60Hz with stable frames should be doable for most GPUs anyway, but it would have been nice to use with a compatible gaming console.

Thoughts on the Dell S2419H

The Dell S2419H is our new favorite mixed-use monitor for home and office applications. The glossy screen offers excellent color fidelity and clarity, while the low input lag takes care of the gamers’ requirements. The monitor looks sleek and sophisticated, but we would have liked it to have the usual comforts of an ergonomic display.

It’s considerably more expensive than monitors like the BenQ GW2480, but we think the additional cost is justified by the beautiful screen. This monitor is also suitable for multi-display setups, but take note of the connectivity requirements since it only supports HDMI. Overall, the Dell S2419H is an excellent choice if you are looking for a multipurpose monitor for basic photo editing or casual gaming.
