The Samsung C32HG70 and its smaller brother the C27HG70 are part of the brand’s thrust to offer excellent color performance and responsive 144Hz screens for gamers. Samsung is actively producing curved displays for all types of clients to capture a wider interest for their products. For some, curved gaming monitors are a gimmick, but once you experience the tightness and immersion brought about by models like the Samsung C32HG70, it might be difficult to go back.

Samsung C32HG70 Specifications

Design and Features

The Samsung C32HG70 utilizes a familiar aesthetic formula we have seen from previous models like the Samsung C27FG70 and the upcoming Samsung C49HG90. The cabinet uses matte black plastics all over making the product look subtle and industrial, and it if weren’t for the 1800r curve, it would be easy to mistake this product as an entry level offering.

The slim and almost unnoticeable bezels are extra thin, and the Korean tech giant did not use two staged trickery to hide the black panel borders. Most of the Samsung C32HG70’s features are found on the back; the most prominent of which is the circular hole for the stand’s upright. This area has an LED ring inside which Samsung calls the Arena Lighting, and it beats or intensifies according to the content displayed on the screen.

The included stand takes hints from the company’s newer models which use a Y-shaped base coupled with an articulated upright for maximum flexibility. The Samsung C32HG70 can adjust height, tilt, swivel, and pivot much like the best out there, but we are a bit doubtful about this design. The Samsung CFG270 series employed a similar mechanism, and according to our experience and some feedback, there was noticeable wobbling since the arm cannot hold the weight well.

VESA mounting is only available via an included adaptor, which, isn’t ideal anyway since the Samsung C32HG70’s curve is too pronounced. There is also a lone multi-directional joystick button for OSD access which makes it convenient to browse through the control menus. The rear is clean and smooth, apart from these mentioned bits, the Samsung logo, and the air vents.

We like how the Samsung C32HG70 implements its I/O layout ingeniously. The concept of the articulated stand doesn’t allow much concerning cable management, so the engineers hid the down firing ports behind a removable plastic panel with a pass-through hole. This makes it easy to manage wires for DisplayPort 1.2, two HDMI 2.0 slots, two USB ports, plus 3.5mm audio lines.

Display and Features

The Samsung C32HG70 sports a 32-inch VA panel with a 2560 x 1440 resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, 4ms response time, and 3000:1 contrast ratio. This model uses the same module as the one found on the AOC Agon AG322QCX, and it is possible that it also shares it with the upcoming Philips 328M6FJMB. The advantage with choosing Samsung’s baby over the two brands is you get Quantum Dot backlighting which helps to improve vibrancy and uniformity.

With the help of QD tech, the Samsung C32HG70 promises to provide 125% sRGB coverage and 92% Adobe RGB coverage. We’ve seen similar claims with the mentioned competitor models even if they are not equipped with Quantum Dot, so the results in practice remain to be seen. Of course, an elevated contrast ratio for deeper blacks and superb grayscale performance is expected care of the VA panel’s capabilities.

The Samsung C32HG70 is projected to launch in all regions of the globe, but one particular bit of information we noticed on the Hungarian website is that there is a mention of HDR support. We doubt Samsung will offer this new model as a full-fledged HDR10 monitor like the C49HG90, but the wide color coverage suggests that it could provide a bit of compatibility for the highly anticipated color standard.

The best part of this upcoming display is it is made for gaming more than professional applications such as design or office use. The Samsung C32HG70 will offer 144Hz refresh rates for responsive and buttery smooth performance at 1440p resolution. But not every GPU out there can push out enough frames at QHD to maximize this capability with stability. Thankfully, we can expect to enjoy AMD’s FreeSync and its buttery smooth goodness to work wonders for our visuals.

Thoughts

We are excited about the Samsung C32HG70 and its capabilities which include cutting edge tech such as Quantum Dot. It’s hard to explain the benefits of this features through words, but seeing it in practice will quickly sway doubters into becoming fans. 144Hz gaming at 2560 x 1440 is an emerging household standard for gaming, so we can safely predict the success of both the 32-inch and 27-inch variants of this series.

If you are interested in the Samsung C32HG70, you can find it available for pre-order. This model is priced at a premium level, but if you check out the brand’s QD HDTVs from retailers, they usually cost twice as much as a conventional model.
