Monitor technology is moving faster than ever since a 480Hz 1080p prototype was recently spotted in the wild, courtesy of Blur Busters. The first 360Hz monitor which was revealed as the Asus PG259QN isn’t so old, given that it was released in 2020. It’s coming to a point where the current hardware is having trouble catching up with the monitors except for some flagship parts like CPUs with the highest IPC or thousand-dollar GPUs.
Even gaming mice, which usually have 1000Hz polling rates against these super-fast monitors. at some point, brand likes Razer and Logitech will offer 2000Hz-capable mice to close the gap. It’s silly if you think about it now, but it is about to become a known limitation as soon as 480Hz monitors arrive on the scene.
Not far behind it are 240Hz 4K panels designed for the enthusiasts out there who want clarity and speed at the same. We’ve only begun the breach the optimum performance level for 4K 144Hz, so it is hard to imagine what kind of GPU will be necessary to reach 240Hz at 4K. It is interesting to see if lower-powered CPUs will also affect the maximum framerate at 240Hz 4K as they do for 1080p variants.
LG and AU Optronics both have these panels in their roadmaps, including other absurdly fast variants such as 360Hz 1440p. Nothing is final as of this time, especially now where production runs and schedules are affected by the pandemic. The best course of action you can take is to save up some cash because these new monitors will be disconnected from the meaning of affordable.
Keep checking this page for the latest updates as this is a developing story. We will share them with you once we catch wind of the latest gaming monitors, panel technologies, along with price and availability.
