The Alienware AW420K has finally arrived to answer the demand from its avid fans for a compact and functional gaming keyboard. It’s a great pick if you want to use the brand’s design concepts for your themed setup. But what’s even better is it now uses Cherry MX switches instead of generic or membrane ones.
Alienware AW420K – Tale of the Tape
The Alienware AW420K uses the TKL or Tenkeyless format so gamers can save space and have a cleaner desktop. TKL keyboards do not have the numpad which is less important for most competitive games which usually focus on the primary letter keys. It looks great, but it also gives your mouse more room for those impressive trick shots and wild maneuvers.
As mentioned, the AW420K now uses premium Cherry MX Red switches for smoothness and speed. The Red variant is a linear type, so presses will register almost instantly without the need to bottom out or activate the tactile bump. There are hundreds of switches available now, but Cherry’s offerings are still quite popular among mainstream gamers because of their proven reliability and performance.
Of course, a premium mechanical keyboard will not be complete without extra durable PBT double-shot keycaps that will not fade easily. Each key also has its own LED light which can be controlled or customized via the AlienFX app. Other standard gaming keyboard features like full anti-ghosting and N-key rollover are part of the deal so you don’t get disrupted during intense battles.
Editor’s Note: The Alienware AW420K is now available for purchase in North America with a $149.99 (US) or $189.99 (CAD) price tag. Alienware fans will love this new peripheral, so hurry and grab it before the first wave sells out at your favorite retailer.
