Review of Asus VC239H
The Asus VC239H is one of the best budget IPS 1080p monitors you can use for gaming, movies or office work. Not only does it provide its owners with fantastic value, it also looks a lot like a high-end product thanks to its sexy design which does not include bezels on the front. Although, the cheap price does not come without sacrifice since Asus had to make compromises to bring the pricing down. If you are curious about how great this wallet-friendly model from the makers of some of the best gaming monitors we have seen, read on.

Design and Features
The best thing you can consider about the Asus VC239H is its elegance in its exterior, since the cabinet is less than an inch thick from the side, while the face of the monitor reveals a borderless screen which today’s consumers favor. Asus uses their Infinity-Edge design with this entry-level model, a feature we mostly see with their upmarket products from the MX and ROG series. Still, the bottom strip is a bit thick at around an inch or so, but even so, the subtle lines and the matte black exterior provides a clean look anyone can appreciate.
The Asus VC239H looks fantastic, but Asus had to cut corners to meet a lower price tag, a fact made apparent by the lack of sophistication on the exterior. This product does not come with versatile ergonomics, however, the screen can tilt from -5 degrees to +20 degrees. The stand mechanism is rather simple, it only comes with a neck and a circular base which we found to be sufficient in keeping the 23-inch screen from falling over or wobbling. We do, however, prefer the square-shaped options on the higher models since they are friendlier on any desk size.
Even if the VC239H is quite thin at less than 2 inches, it still includes VESA mounting if you want a multiple monitor setup or if you want to fix it to a wall. As for connection options, the I/O layout for this product borders on being adequate, since you only get an HDMI slot, plus a DVI and VGA port plus a 3.5mm jack for sound. The VC239H does include speakers, but the 1.5watt RMS pair is too weak to function as a dedicated set since bass response is almost non-existent and the sound easily distorts.
Display and Performance
The Asus VC239H includes an excellent 1080p IPS panel with a 60Hz refresh rate and a 5ms response time. Out of the box, the images on the screen look bland or undersaturated, which pales in comparison to what the PG279Q offers in terms of vibrancy. However, the VC239H includes eight color presets in the OSD. We tested the Standard mode, and while it did correct some of the discoloration, the sRGB mode did a better job at brightening up the shades of our test images. Using the latter limits the contrast to around 680:1, but Delta E drops to around 1.80 which a performance worthy of a higher price.
The VC239H has a pixel transition time of 5ms, which is only adequate for casual after-hours gaming. We did see occasional blurring and ghosting in our Battlefield 1 test, but we did not feel any hellish delays from input lag. Watching HD movies is also a breeze, but for these two applications, you’re better off with using standard mode since going back to it pushes the contrast ratio to around 1100:1, which more beneficial even if you sacrifice vibrancy and saturation.
Of course, the Asus VC239H is by no means a full-fledged gaming monitor like its PG series cousins. There is no adaptive sync included, but we think situations, where you will need the solution, are rare at 1080p 60Hz. Lots of entry-level and mid-range graphics cards can power through 1080p, so you won’t have tearing issues most of the time. But if you still want a bit of gaming pedigree, this model includes some GamePlus features which you usually only find on the gamer-centric offerings.
If office work like document processing or browsing is your thing more than entertainment, then, by all means, the VC239H is an excellent monitor since the IPS panel allows crisp and clear texts and pictures at a wider angle. Finally, this product is also friendly on your eyes since the backlight is flicker-free and the brand’s Low Blue Light technology is also included.
Conclusion
The Asus VC239H offers fantastic value for its current market price. For a little over a hundred dollars at the time of this review, you get a high-quality IPS screen capable of excellent colors and contrast levels suitable for home or office use. Casual gaming is also great on the VC239H, making it a popular budget-conscious choice for many gamers in both eastern and western countries where it is available.
The best thing about this product is it boasts of a borderless design, which effectively makes it look like a high-end model instead of a cheap product. As always, build quality is excellent, a common facet between Asus monitors. If you can look past the cut corners Asus had to make to offer a great price, the Asus VC239H is a great budget-friendly IPS gaming for casual gaming, movies, and office work at the home or at the office.

It’s not really borderless as when on there is an irritating 1cm black surround top and sides. The images on their website (and possibly yours) appear to be for the 27 inch model so the bezel / surround looks narrower than it really is. Otherwise average quality – my screen has shading down both sides when on a light background, and the speakers are so bad as to be unusable..

Hi Al, we’re sorry to hear about your experience and opinions about this monitor. But you have to remember, the Asus VC239H is a budget IPS monitor so it does have its limitations. We’re not defending the brand or product specifically, but it is what is, a cheap IPS monitor for the masses.
